and The Lake Martin Amphitheater
Present
Tonic, Blackberry Smoke and Trotline
Sunday, May 29, 2011
Lake Martin, AL, May 1 – Six Top 10 singles. Over 4 million records sold. Grammy nominations, platinum albums, numerous awards and hit songs around the world, plus the #1 most-played rock song of 1998. Tonic was a musical powerhouse, merging the raw honesty of rock to unabashed melody… and ushering rock 'n' roll into a new millennium.
Many bands would be content with that sort of history. Not Tonic. The band went back in the studio after a two-year break and released the album Tonic in 2010.
"When we play music together it feels like going home,” explains singer and guitarist Emerson Hart. “Getting together, playing some rock ‘n’ roll: it's the best feeling in the world."
Hart founded Tonic with guitarist Jeff Russo, adding bassist Dan Lavery shortly after inception. After storming the charts with debut album Lemon Parade and its monster hit "If You Could Only See," the band released two additional studio albums (Sugar and Head On Straight) as well as a live EP, Live & Enhanced. They've been featured on a number of soundtracks, including the lead single from American Pie ("You Wanted More").
"Of course," he adds with a laugh, "We're in a rock band, so that translates to 60% maturity and 40% nine-year-old." Tonic should take the stage about 9pm.
You can call Blackberry Smoke's music southern rock and you wouldn't be wrong. Or you could call it country and you wouldn't be wrong, either. But you would be selling both the band and its legion of fans short. With influences that run the gamut from country to bluegrass to gospel and yes, southern rock, Blackberry Smoke is more than the sum of its diverse parts.
Atlanta based Blackberry Smoke continues to grow into a premiere southern rock band. The band recently signed a record deal with Zac Brown's Southern Ground Records. Make sure you are in the audience to welcome Blackberry Smoke to the Lake Martin Amphitheater. Blackberry Smoke will follow Trotline at 7:30.
Trotline has absolutely become one of the most popular "country/southern rock" bands in the Southeast today. Since originating in South Georgia in 1997, the five-member band has made their way from their home state of Georgia to Alabama, Mississippi, Tennessee, Louisiana, the Carolinas, and Texas.
Performing more than 140 shows a year for the past 13 years, it didn't take long for the word to get out that Trotline was a must-have band for any event, including weddings! Never heard of them? Well, come out and see them. One thing is for sure, when the show is over, you will be hooked.
Gates will open at the Lake Martin Amphitheater at 4:30 pm and the show starts at 6:00 pm. Tickets $25.00 in advance and $30.00 day of the show are available at www.lmat.org, the Adventure Center at Russell Crossroads, or day of show at the gate. Children 6 and under will be admitted free. You can visit the Lake Martin Amphitheater website at www.lmat.org for more information on the venue.
